Topological excitonic insulator with tunable momentum order

Date:

This work established Ta$_2$Pd$_3$Te$_5$ as a topological excitonic insulator, where Coulomb-driven exciton condensation opens a bulk gap while preserving topological boundary modes. Spectroscopy, microscopy, and theory together showed both zero-momentum and finite-momentum excitonic ordering, providing a rare experimental example of topology emerging from spontaneous symmetry breaking in a three-dimensional crystal.
